On the 8th day of Christmas my true love gave to me...

Eight Maids A-milking

The eight Beatitudes: 1) Blessed are the poor in spirit, 2) those who mourn, 3) the meek, 4) those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, 5) the merciful, 6) the pure in heart, 7) the peacemakers, 8) those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake. (Matthew 5:3-10)

I love to learn new things so I thought it was some what interesting that this song, The Twelve Days of Christmas, would be representation of God, the gospels, faith and so on. The message is certainly lovely and brings one's thoughts from Santa Clause and greedy consumer spending back to where they ought to be, though I had never heard it previously and wondered of its historical accuracy.

This is the geek in me.

So I did a bit of digging and found an interesting article: http://www.cresourcei.org/cy12days.html

It is a good read. An interesting one, as I stated, as is the Snopes article on the topic, which is linked in the original article.

In the end after it is revealed that the song is merely just that and not code, the author invites all to embrace the song as more anyway, simply because upon hearing it and knowing the symbolism reminds us of the grace of God and after all that is the true spirit of Christmas.

Following the article, if you scroll down, each day of Christmas is listed with the ideas for which they stand for, scripture included, and you can click on the picture to be linked to a devotional. Kind of neat, I thought.
