that is right only about five months left until Sam is home!! So far he has been to Hawaii, Gram, Singapore and Thailand. That is one of the great things about being in the Navy then other military branches, you actually get to see other lands beside Iraq and Afghanistan!!! I wish I could talk about when he was there but that would give away too much information about ship movements. So I can only tell way after he was there. Sam did not spend too much time in Singapore. He said it was because he was tired and wanted to rest up but I think (or I would like to think) it was because that was the first place Sam and I hung out together. Sam says it was our first date. I like to say it was where I was stocked by my "Singapore stocker" (Sam). I can remember that day like it was last month (not yesterday because I can't remember everything about it, lol). It was December 9, 2001, the day after Sam's birthday. I bought Sam an ice cream bar for his birthday. We went to the Merlion.
Sentosa Island is the location of the Merlion.. The Merlion is the symbol of Singapore, a mythical creature that is half lion and half fish. The Merlion on Sentosa Island is one hundred and twenty one feet tall and offers a spectacular view of both the island and the South China Sea. You can walk upstairs inside the Merlion and look out the mouth. From the top of the Merlion one had a panoramic view of the sea. Singapore is a major shipping port, as it is a free trade zone. Hence the island is continually ensconced within a fleet of merchant ships awaiting either to load or offload cargo.
We then went on this tram where I lost my only pair of glasses!!! I had to go I think for two months with no glasses and no contacts! Luckily my vision was / is not bad so I could do it!
After all of that we did a lot of walking and shopping.
Pretty much that is what I remember about Singapore. It was a beautiful place to visit and I would love to go there again someday to relive out "first date" / "stocking days"
